I can’t believe I’m reviewing a chain, but with 20 locations, that’s exactly what 7th Street Burger has become. And those 20 locations seemed to pop up out of NOWHERE. Smashburgers as a whole have seen a resurgence of sorts and I’m not opposed to their pervasiveness.

The restaurant is bare bones, but they don’t need much when the menu is so small. Your choices are cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, impossible burger. Fries or no fries. All burgers come with grilled onions, pickles, and special sauce. I recommend adding a side of sauce for fry dipping (I went with the spicy version which may have been a limited edition). Oh and coke in a glass bottle – a flex.

But does it live up to the hype? Honestly, yes. It’s a chain, but it’s still NYC. I personally love that the onions are grilled and not raw and pickles should probably always be on a burger or sandwich. I didn’t always feel that way, but now I’m very very pro pickle. The fries were good and had some give, but they’re still crispier than I like. Overall, great. Harlem Shake is still my beloved and continues to hold the honor of “best,” but it’s nice to know there’s a great smashburger option when I’m not in my own neighborhood.
